Case Study Examples
Vacuum Extraction of Petroleum from Bedrock
ALTECH has been involved in completing a project involving the delineation
of migrating petroleum product in bedrock, and the remediation of the
contaminant plume. ALTECH engineers and geologists were able to study
the migration of the contaminants through borehole and monitor well development,
fracture analysis, etc. ALTECH designed a well manifold system to extract
the contaminants.
ALTECH provided and operated
a remediation system incorporating vacuum extraction of the wells with
oil/water separation, air stripping and catalytic oxidation to handle
both the air and water contaminant streams.
The system is remotely controlled by computer with access to a telephone
line allowing staff to monitor and control the system without being onsite.
The operator can monitor the real time parameters and make adjustment
to pumps, valves, and dilution air as required. This provides for the
most cost effective solution for a difficult problem.
The Soil Washing Technology
BioGenesis Enterprises Inc. and ALTECH Technology Systems Inc. have partnered
to offer patented soil washing technology for Ontario and Canada.
Both BioGenesis and Altech have been working for 15 years in the area
of soil and sediment washing research, as well as other soil and groundwater
treatment technologies. Both BioGenesis and Altech were chosen by Environment
Canada to pilot test their technologies in 1991. Since that time the two
companies have substantially progressed with their remediation activities
and experience, collaborating on several occasions.
As a proven technology, Soil Washing is an established technology for
contaminated soil remediation.
It is cost effective and has less energy and operating cost when compared
to other technologies such as thermal desorption etc. The BioGenesis patented
process improves upon existing approaches by using intense hydraulic action
to perform much of the scrubbing Innovations such as the Preprocessor,
the Collision Chamber, and the Cavitation/Oxidation unit allow this system
to treat a combination of metals and organics, depending on the contaminants.
